I'm back....

Well I had a great time in Florida, but it is good to be back. Our family has a small place in Cape Canaveral and over the next couple of weeks I will share some of my pictures with you.

Below are some of the Peacocks that run free through the city. Even though not native they have been there for years. Stories say a man raised them on a farm 30 or 40 years ago, some escaped and some were let go when the farm folded. There are two albinos in the area but I did not see them.

Heading to Florida

Sound the alert!

I am flying to Florida today-GOOD

I am going to Brevard County-BAD, unless you like smoke and brush fires

I am going down to see my youngest son who is staying at our family trailer in Cape Canaveral and going to school. We are going to have some fun for a week or so and drive back together and then he will be heading back down for the start of school in July.

I plan to go to the Canaveral National Seashore and the Merritt Island National Refuge for some wildlife shots.

I will be taking one of our laptops so hopefully I can post from there, if not see you next week sometime.

Need help Identifying

Saw these two Sandpiper like birds the other day while birding on the Old Champlain Canal. As you can see they are different as to bills and necks. The one on the bottom looks like a Solitary Sandpiper.

Any help would be appreciated.

Green Heron

Yesterday my wife and I were driving along the Old Champlain Canal and she was able to get some shots of an adult Green Heron, they are very elusive so this is the best we could get. Click on for a larger view.

The Dilema

Well it seems a mother Robin has taken up residency over the heat exhaust for the gas fireplace in the in-laws apartment. Problem is my father-in-law who is 85 is returning from Florida today and is always cold and will want the fireplace on. But we will handle it so we don't have roasted Robin and fried eggs. Wish me luck.

And when I came home this afternoon.....

I found "Dumb and Dumber" looking out the window where there should be glass, I am sure Dumb did it barking at a squirrel.

A sign of the past

Signs like this are becoming more rare with pharmacies like Rite-Aid and CVS taking over. In 1958 Rexall was the largest drug store chain in the U.S. This is from the McCann's store in the Village of Hudson Falls, N.Y.

Ooops!

Everything was fine until Floyds partner Porky stepped up on the bumper to get a hammer.

And now for something completely different

One of the blogs I read came up with an idea about a group of photographers doing a book project about pictures shot through windows. So Sunday I was fooling around with my laptop and my little Nikon P50 and came up with this.

Cross bred Mallards?

Shot this on the Towpath road in the Town of Kingsbury, notice all three have green heads but different markings. Anyone have any other idea? Click on to enlarge.

Nice place for a nest

The female blends right in. Look closely she is just below his head to the back of the nest, she loooks like grass.
